Little Flannel Shirt

Little Flannel Shirt

My little flannel shirt,

Checkered, khaki and blue;

Oh how I loved you.

My little flannel shirt,

Cuff ripping at the seam;

Oh how I used to dream.

My little flannel shirt,

Thinning with time;

You once were sublime.

My little flannel shirt,

The pocket too small;

How I watch you fall.

My little flannel shirt,

With a sensual cologne scent;

Into darkness you descent.

My little flannel shirt,

A possession, a prize;

Filling my head with lies.

My little flannel shirt,

Stained with self doubt;

I watch you walk out.

My little flannel shirt,

Constricting as I grow;

Why do you cause all this woe?

My little flannel shirt,

Trying to hold on;

You so pale, withdrawn.

My little flannel shirt,

You are my downfall;

Your confusion enthralls.

My little flannel shirt,

Checkered, khaki and blue;

What has happened to you?

Great news

Hallo!
         Do you dear readers remember when I submitted an essay to NPR's "This I Believe" (I also made it a forum here)? Well, guess what! This morning when I came home to check my e-mail before work, I had an e-mail waiting from This I Believe sitting in my inbox. I was so nervous to open it, but I did and this is what it had to say:

Dear Jessica:

Thank you for submitting an essay to This I Believe. Your essay has now completed our review process. Though your essay was not chosen for broadcast on NPR, the larger goal of our project is to open a community conversation about belief--one essay at a time. To that end, we have placed your essay in the This I Believe online database.

If you go to our website at www.thisibelieve.org, then click on "Advanced Essay Search," fill in only your last name in the "Last Name" field. You can also find your essay by searching all essays from your city or state. You will notice that only your first name will be seen on the web page with your essay. We do not publish last names or other personal information on our website.

Please don’t consider this in any way a "rejection." Our criteria for broadcast consider many factors beyond subjective notions of quality. We air only a fraction of one percent of those submitted, and we must balance our few selections across themes, perspectives, diversity of sources, and so on.

Though your essay has not been selected for NPR, we are working to find other venues to publish some of the many thousands of essays we have received, including newspapers, podcasts, and local public radio stations. Should we find a venue to print or broadcast your essay, one of our staff will be in touch with you.

We are honored by your having shared your most closely held convictions with us. Thank you, sincerely, for participating in our project.

-- The staff of This I Believe

That made my day! I was so depressed yesterday that it made me feel better. I need to do this with more of my writing -- I really need to check out the Writer's Market Guide for public venues to submit my writing. I'm going to write for Writing.com's Dear Me contest, so I can make that one of my goals. ^_^ I still have to tell my parents; I told Jacob when I was talking to him earlier and he's so proud of me. Nan is too. ^_^
         Last night I stayed with nan and scrapbooked. It took me about 2.5 hours to work on five pages. I made the New Years Eve pages and they look great. I'll have to get some pictures later and post them tomorrow to get your opinions. That also put me in a more relaxed state of mind too. Yesterday I was feeling depressed for some reason, but Jacob made me feel better even though I was so out of it and sort of made him a little annoyed. Zach IMed me on Saturday night and I said things I didn't mean because I was so out of it and it struck a whole chain of events. Everything has blown over and all is fine and forgiven. Jacob made me realize I shouldn't listen to Zach and I'm a great person... some days I just forget that and get all self-conscious. Lately I've just had a lot on my mind and wasn't ready to put up with Zach. I love Jacob; I love the way he makes me feel, I love the way he can cheer me up, the way he can make me laugh and the way we can talk and listen to each other -- I'm happy I have him in my life.
         Yesterday I also treated mom to Marley & Me. It was a very good movie, though it was very sad at some points. I would recommend seeing it... it's worth the money. Yesterday was also my 19.5 birthday... yes, I celebrate my half birthdays... in another 6 months I'll be 20.

Bis spater!

Friday

Hallo!

Just updating before I go work on my scrapbook some more. May I have your opinion on this page please:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/red_haired_kurt/Winterbreak2008.jpg

I hung out with Jacob this evening and it was amazing as always. We hung out three times this week (we normally hang out once a week, sometimes two times a week), so that was even better. We watched Brokeback Mountain, and he thought it was good. After the movie was over, we had dinner and watched Adult Swim -- that was fun too. Yesterday I had the pictures from New Years Eve printed out and I showed him those too. He really liked our group photos. {e:bigsmile}. We did a lot of laughing and talking; I love spending time with him. =]

Happy 2009!

Hallo!
         Happy New Year, dear blog readers! I hope everyone's 2009 is wonderful, healthy and happy. Did anyone make any resolutions? Personally, I never make any resolutions because if something needs to be changed, I don't need a special day to do so. I just look to have a good year with great health and luck. ::shrugs::
         My New Year's Eve was awesome! Jacob and nan came over. Nan came at 5:30 and dad and I picked Jacob up from work at 6:45. Last week nan challenged Jacob to Wii Bowling because since we hooked up the Wii, nan's been obsessed with bowling. When Jacob and I went downstairs, nan was still practicing her game and I showed Jacob the scrapbook pages I made for us (for my scrapbook). He thought they were very nice and said I did a good job. =] Nan then finished her game, then she played Jacob. There was a lot of laughing; Jacob ultimately won, though. After that game, dad and Jacob played bowling. That game was intense because they both have the same bowling style. Nan and I did a lot of laughing and again, Jacob won. Here's one of the pictures I snapped of dad and Jacob playing bowling:

         Then we took a snack break (mom doesn't cook on New Year's Eve, she just makes little snacks for us to eat) and dad showed off the new bar and bar lights to Jacob. We all pigged out on the snacks (okay, okay, I don't pig out... I eat like a bird). We all sat around and talked for about 20 minutes and mom took pictures as well. Her and Jacob did some talking too, which was very nice. After we ate, mom and Jacob played bowling. Mom's game was VERY good; she bowled a couple of strikes and beat Jacob. After mom and Jacob's game, nan, Jacob and I played bowling. I did pretty well, but I still came in last place. I wanted Jacob to show me Guitar Hero, and we played that. I still failed miserably... I have to get used to the colour controls. Jacob did well and mom asked him if knowing how to play the guitar makes a difference; he replied, "A little, but this is more like the bass." We played that for a half an hour, then mom, nan and dad went upstairs and left us alone; we just watched the Twilight Zone, talked and laughed about a lot of different things. It was very fun. :) Mom, nan, dad came back downstairs at 11:45; they welcomed in the New Year with champagne, Jacob and I welcomed in the New Year with sparkling apple cider and a New Year kiss (my first New Year kiss!). We also watched Dick Clark's rocking New Years Eve for the ball to drop. Even though we watched 10 minutes of it, he wasn't the same. Jacob left at 12:30 and he gave mom a hug. It was a VERY nice evening and I enjoyed myself. I loved being with Jacob and nan. Here are some more pictures:

Valkyrie with Jacob

Hallo!
\
This evening was awesome! I met up with Jacob at 4:30 at the mall; I woke up in a depressed mood this morning and so I vented for about 15 minutes, which he really helped me a lot and cheered me up by comforting me and doing things to make me laugh. I love him so much; he can always put a smile on my face. We went to Ritz Camera to pick up the 180 photos (two years worth of pictures) that I ordered for my scrapbook, then went into Spencer's for a bit and looked around. I saw some really cool hats, but they were to big for me. We then walked around some more, he bought me some Amp because I didn't really sleep last night and was crashing, then we went outside and caught up with Kevin for about 20 minutes. Mikei then came out and I finally met one of my MySpace buddies I had added two years ago from Gettysburg. It was cool meeting her. Then Jacob treated me to dinner; we split a spinach and pepperoni pizza which was delicious. We also did some serious talking about some things, especially about how we were in middle school. After dinner, I drug him into Victoria's Secret and did some underwear shopping, haha. He was a good sport about that. Then we walked around a bit and the mall still had Christmas decoration up, so we took a picture and talked about sending this out as a Christmas card next year:

{indent}After that photo, we walked up to the movies and saw {i}Valkyrie{/i}. It was an AWESOME movie and pretty accurate. Tom Cruise did a pretty good job portraying von Stauffenberg, though at the beginning some of the German was off. Overall, good movie and I would suggest to you dear readers to definitely go see it. It definitely isn't a waste of money. After the movie was over, Jacob tried winning me a teddy bear from the arcade games, but it didn't work and each time he grabbed a teddy bear, the claw dropped it. We then went outside, talked about random things and he picked me up and kissed me. I really enjoyed that. {e:smile} When he put me down and set out his coat for me to sit on, we talked about music and "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" came onto his iPod and he said, "You know where I got this CD from? It was right after I lost my first copy." I replied, "where?" then I remembered and said, "Oh! I copied it for you! Summer of 2006! I also made you a mix." Then he was remembering the mix he made for me, but it didn't burn right. Remenising about the past, especially good memories, is always fun. It was just an awesome evening out and I love spending time with him. He's coming over tomorrow for a few hours and I can't wait.
This morning mom, dad and I went to Lancaster to look for some furniture. We had breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then went to the furniture store. There were these German people there speaking German and I followed them around a bit because listening to their conversations were awesome. When they left, I went to where mom was and she said, "You were listening to those Germans the whole time?" "Yes and this is what they said..." and gave her a full detailed list of what was said. She shook her head and said, "Only you. Of course you'd follow Germans and listen in." She laughed and gave me a hug. Came home and then I went driving; practiced some parallel parking. My next test is January 24th.

Last night I caught up with Kerri and we exchanged gifts. First we had dinner at TGI Fridays, caught up on everything since I hadn't seen her for three months, then went into Spencer's since Jacob was working and she bought JP a gift. As Kerri paid for her item, I talked to Jacob and then Tammy, his manager. When Kerri and I were leaving, Jacob was still standing at the cash register before ringing up the other customers, he blew me a kiss goodbye. It was so cute. ^_^
